A Writers’ & Readers’ Quotionary, soon to be published in paperback, is an updated version of Paper Prophets with almost 6000 entertaining, sometimes ribald quotations. There are fascinating anecdotes by and about writers, and a vast spectrum of advice on writing, storytelling, literature, novels and novelists, how to start a book and keep going, how to end and sell it, and how to deal with pesky critics.
A portion of Quotionary royalties will go to the Franschhoek Literary Festival’s Library Fund which has established, stocked and helped to staff four libraries in local primary schools to encourage reading. Preceding each festival, the Book Week for Young Readers also invites storytellers, authors and illustrators of children’s and young adult books to come to the valley so every class receives at least one inspiring visit to kindle interest in stories, writing and reading.
the franschhoek press is an imprint under which I have published a limited family edition of The Moor Diaries 1890 – 1916, and assisted the University of the Western Cape to publish This Is My Land, writing from the UWC CREATES Programme.
